Psychiatric Director of Nursing Job Description
The Psychiatric Director of Nursing is a Registered Nurse (RN) who is specialized in the institutional care of residents with mental disorders and wish to assume more responsibility in a managerial capacity in nursing homes supervising the nursing staff and overseeing patient care as well as some administrative functions such as record keeping and budgeting.

The Director of Nursing Main Job Duties:
  • Supervising and reviewing nursing staff
  • Overseeing the department budget
  • Supervise medication schedules and evaluate patient progress
  • Use of monitoring devices and restraining techniques where deemed necessary
  • Maintaining high standards of care
  • Managing patient’s data and medical records
  • Interacting with doctors, patients and family members
  • Assuming the Nursing Facility Administrator’s responsibilities when necessary
  • Conducting on going staff meeting, training, counseling as necessary
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Registered Nurse from an accredited institution
  • Current Registered Nurse License in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • Bachelors degree preferred – Associate Degree Required
  • Minimum of 03 years working as Unit Manager or ADON in Psychiatric Centers
