General Statement of Responsibilities
The Activities Assistant will assist in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of recreational, social, intellectual, emotional and spiritual programs, in accordance with the residents' assessment and care plan. Other activities as assigned by the Activities Director.

Core Job Responsibilities
  • Conducts activities for various functioning residents and conducts and sets standards for one-on-one activity therapy for selected residents.
  • Assists Director with coordination and implementation of routine duties and activities.
Key Educational/Professional Requirements
  • High school diploma or its equivalent;
  • Previous experience working independently with elderly and dementia residents;
  • Previous experience in a Recreation/Activities position in long-term care preferred OR
  • Previous experience in school settings (paraprofessionals, teacher assistants)

  • Superior self-management skills, as independent initiative, time management,  and ability to collaborate are essential
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, reflecting an understanding of the appropriate use of communication technologies and an appreciation that each audience requires its own approach
  • Appreciation of cultural and ethnic diversity, especially with respect to outreach to underserved communities
