General Statement of Responsibilities
The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for the overall operation of nursing department in accordance with facility policies, standards of nursing practices and governmental regulations so as to maintain excellent resident care and to meet resident needs.  The DON will assist and support the translation of the nursing philosophy of the facility into nursing practice by participating in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing care delivery system. Core Job Responsibilities
  • Completes patient care requirements by scheduling and assigning nursing and staff; following up on work results
  • Establishes a positive work environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends, and families.
  • Provides information to patients and health care team by answering questions and requests
  • Ensures complete and prompt reporting on incidents with follow up as necessary to Administrator, Director of Nursing and Assistant Director of Nursing
  • Ensures that significant changes in residents' condition are communicated to the physician, family or responsible party
Key Educational/Professional Requirements
  • Currently licensed as an RN in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts;
    Associate’s Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred. 
    3-5 years of experience in nurse leadership in a long-term care setting.
    Knowledge of state and federal regulations
    Experience with Geriatric Psychiatric population preferred
